Went to Digital Life in NYC at the Javits Center.

They had a PS3 on display on a 42" or so HD TV

They had NBA 07, Some fighting kinda game that had the Capcom look to it, and a game with a space ship/future fighter jet thing that was pretty cool, the jet looked well detailed, backgrounds not so much.

The backgrounds looked better than on the PS2 but nothing else really, maybe a bit better, but nothing to drool after.

There were more blueray movies listed than games for initial launch release, hopefully that will grow later.

The tilt controller is a nice idea, but I dont like it, what if im on a couch all relaxed and then i gotta hold it out level? yuck. Ruins the only game I saw that I liked, unless you can disable tilt and use the analog controls.

Based on the presentation I'd rather grab an Xbox 360.

Sony, for somewhat obvious reasons, continues to pimp their own NBA 07 when NBA Live 07 or NBA 2K7 are much better choices for showing off the system at this point.

So did you go to the show with those free tickets? :p

PS3 is gonna suck, BR media are so much more expansive compare to HD medias, and all major movie studios are gonna release movies on HD medias.
I never saw PS3 in action and i cant judge but what X360 brought to us (and im really not game guru) it REALLY got my attention, so much detail everywhere in every game.I play 360 1-2 hours per day but i enjoy it 10000%.

Honestly I couldn't, the company is way to big. I'd need to separate it into 3, electronics/meida/gaming and PCs.

Even then it'd be challenging to get the PS3 on course.

Many times, Sony's divisions DO act as if they were different companies. How many lawsuits has the RIAA (of which Sony is a member) filed suits and threats against the makers of MP3 players, CD burners, etc.? And how many of those players and burners were also made by....Sony? The content and tech heads of Sony constantly clash with each other.

SCEA is getting cocky, and in many ways, this can and will bite them in the ass. That being said, in the long run, I have no doubt that the Playstation 3 will bring much success to that division and the company as a whole, as it has for the past decade.

I'll try to keep this ramble short...

Worldwide, yes.

US? Probably, at least after a few years.

The part where Sony may hurt is market share, something they don't seem to consider "important" any longer. While XBOX 360 won't "kill" the PS3, it's going to take quite a large chunk away from them, especially since more titles will be going multi-patform than in the last generation. Developers simply can't afford to spend the money making AA or AAA titles these days, and only limit themselves to one system, unless Sony or Microsoft makes it worth their while. If anything, games that were formerly exclusive will be a "delayed" exclusive.

Sony has a few factors going for it that give them an edge over Microsoft:

1) Japan. The 360 is still practically a paperweight in Japan, and if their Blue Dragon bundle doesn't light up the sales charts, the system is DEAD in Japan. PERIOD.

2) Japanese developers. The 360 is getting much better Japanese support out of the gate compared to the first machine (which relied on Tecmo for the most part), but many Japanese developers will still focus on the PS3 and Wii over it. Example: SquareEnix is showing the 360 support...with a 3-year old PC port and an arcade shooter, which has garnered little buzz on both sides of the Pacific. SquareEnix has also shown very little of their two PS3 Final Fantasy XIII titles, and most of that is only in CG form, but they're still dominating most of the "Most Wanted" lists for consoles. While Western games tend to rule the US sales charts for much of the year, many of the blockbuster titles come from overseas.

3) Downloadable games. While both will be very successful with this, Sony has the added firepower of a large library of first and second-party PSX and PS2 titles that they can also offer, which can more than counter Microsoft's bombshell news of putting Castlevania:SOTN on the marketplace. Expect both sides to wh0re out their microtransactions, but I see Sony taking it to an even greater level than Microsoft (which isn't exactly a good thing in some cases).

4) SOCOM. Seriously. Don't underestimate Joe Six-Pack's desire to play above-average military FPS games.

5) Backwards compatibility. While a great number of people don't tend to actually use that after the first year or so of a console's release, it still is a factor that's considered when looking at a system. If only a third of little Johnny's XBOX games are compatible on 360 and all of little Joey's PS2 games are compatible on the PS3, that can easily be a dealbreaker. "But Mom, even though our PS2 died for the eighth time, the PS3 can play all of the games we already own!"

6) The XBOX 360. While the 360 launched with a bunch of XBOX1 ports and relied on a port of a year-old PC game to push it through the holidays, the PS3 is coming out of the gate running with a bunch of....360 ports. Having games like Oblivion at launch is a great boost for Sony, even if the rest of us have already been enjoying it since early this year.

There are a million and one reasons why each console (including Nintendo's wild card) will "win" the war, but I see all three of them doing very well. Microsoft obviously has the early lead, and while Sony's will probably take a dip after the early adopter crowd has had its fill, eventually, enough factors will come into play over the next five years to give them the lead in the end. At least, that's the way I see it right now. A lot can happen in five years...

Thank you for your input, very interesting.
There are really not many interesting titles yet (at least for me) for xbox360 but on other hand i'm definately not buying PS3.
I would love to see what's gonna happen in the future, but like you said ...a lot can happen.
