I am presently running Windows XP - want to add more Ram. Any suggestions? Also, will this "speed up" my computer. It is very slow!

Yes adding RAM in some cases will increase speed, as if you are too low that will slow the computer down.
RAM is also the most cost effective and bang for the buck upgrade you can get.
As far as what kind, well that depends on several things.
1. What do you use your computer for?
2. How Old is your computer?
3. What brand is it or what motherboard is it?
My choice, goto crucial
www.crucial.com they have it set up very nice so that you put in your specs and they tell you what is compatable. If you are unsure, tell me what you have and I can look it up for you. :)

RAM definitely helps. My minimum RAM for Windows XP machines I setup is 512 megs...and that's for average use...home and office use, not special needs such as gaming, or some accounting apps, or some business apps, etc. Then RAM goes even higher.
Favorite place for RAM is Crucial.com
They have a selection guide..and even a "Scan my PC and tell me what I need" application...so you'll easily get the correct RAM for your system.
Other things that impact performance....
Some software firewalls bog down your PC, so if you need a software firewall..select wisely.
Some antivirus programs bog down your PC a lot more than others
Having lots of ad/spyware on your system can bring it to a crawl..make sure it's free of that junk.
How's the windows installer issue? Haven't seen you reply back in that thread.

Sorry to jump in the middle of this thread, but YeOldeStonecat mentioned some antivirus programs slow things down more than others.
Which do you recommend? Which don't you like?
For most home/small office networks with a router (built in firewall) and each computer running Windows firewall (better than nothing), are additional software firewalls (Norton, McAfee etc) needed or are they a drag?
Thanks.

I avoid Norton and Mcafee.
NOD32 has been great to me.
Ms Ignorant, how much ram do you have now?

Which do you recommend?
NOD32, Kapersky, BitDefender

Hopefully you do not have RD RAM like I do.That stuff is more expensive than a new motherboard.
