Hi, I am new here, i just recently have been having slow cable speeds.. I am an on-line gamer, that depends on fast internet speeds. This past week, I have noticed between 6 and 11 pm est, my pings are doubled!! Whats weird is, i have a lynxs wireless router, with a wireless lap-top downstairs.. My wireless laptop runs faster than my WIRED gaming desktop?????????? I called support, they said everything looks fine on their end? Could my nic card be bad in my desktop?? I tried changing the duplex, but its all the same??? Any help would be great... thanks

A good answer that leaves many scratching their head. Should not this congestion slows a wireless connection similarly to the wired?
Not necessary. How much it will slow each comp, wired or wireless, depends on the RWIN value for a certain bandwidth. Or to put it another way, how much variable latency has been allowed in choosing the RWIN value.
Example: Bandwidth 3000kbps. Average latency 100ms
Comp 1 - RWIN = 3000 x 100 x 1.2 / 8 = 45000
Comp 2 - RWIN = 3000 x 100 x 1.5 / 8 = 56250
Comp 1 has a RWIN value that allows latency up to 120ms
Comp 2 has a RWIN value that allows latency up to 150ms
So if the network congestion causes latency to become 130-150ms from the usual 100-110ms, Comp 1 will run slower than Comp 2.

open up your command prompt and do a tracert to some site.. like www.yahoo.com
you might see certain hops having high pings and this has been known already on many other places.. check out the forums on dslreports..com they are talking about it daily I had the issue for a while being on Adelphia and with TW taking em over it was a pain in the butt for transfer.

Let's start by you posting a traceroute to any webserver.

I am getting the same thing, the phone support people say no problems but when they send a tech out they find problems on Monday the tech told me the problem was at their end but it has been three weeks and still I am waiting for a fix. Guy # 3 is coming out Friday...........
PS: I work in the field and have been for 28 years, I told them three weeks ago it was at their end but no............................................. I am getting speeds as slow as less then 1 meg down with upload above 1 meg at the same time with a QoS at less the 25%................................

FYI: When I run a ping test to their primary DNS server I get over 70% packet loss and they tell me they see no problems

Exactly what do yo mean by your wireless laptop is faster than your desktop?
And what pings are we talking here, if you say 50 and 100, I'm going to verbally slap you.

If the Guy#3 doesn't get the issue solved I suggest calling their executive Complaint center...when I did on a issue it got major local attention within 24hours from management and got the ball rolling to get the issue resolved.
They are listed as:
Comcast Cellular Communications
1500 Market St
Philadelphia, PA 19102-2100
(215) 665-1700
They handle all Comcast complaints nationwide.
