Have you given it a whirl yet ? I remember Grisoft picked up Ewido...I had found Ewido very strong about a year ago...but they've seemed to slack. Maybe during changoever/redevelopment time.

Yeah, I installed it last night. It's Ewido with an AVG looking skin and supposedly a better cleaning engine.

But now, is free support for this really going away in 2007?

Does AVG Free 7.5 work in Vista?

Does AVG Free 7.5 work in Vista?
Are you referring to AVG 7.5 Free Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware? I think the Anti-virus is compatible but not the Anti-Spyware. For a free Vista compatible anti-virus solution I would recommend AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com/). Active Virus Shield is better but not Vista compatible yet.

I did mean AVG 7.5 Anti-Virus Free, sorry I posted in the wrong thread.
Why do you recommend Anti-Vir over AVG 7.5?

Why do you recommend Anti-Vir over AVG 7.5?
Superior detection, lighter in weight.

Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks!
Would you recommend it for XP as well?

No, for XP Active Virus Shield is the best, powered by Kaspersky. Active Virus Shield will soon be Vista compatible as well.

So after Active Virus Shield becomes Vista compatible, would you recommend it or still ANTI-VIR?

I would recommend Active Virus Shield over all other freebies, AntiVir is very good but AVS is basically Kaspersky minus some features.

Do you have a good link for Active Virus Shield?

Active Virus Shield (http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?), just don't install the security toolbar, that's AOL's contribution and it's junk.

Where'd you see the info about Vista? I don't see anything when I click that link that talks about when they will be Vista compatible. Will it just be an update that makes it compatible or a completely new version.

Is Active Virus Shield now compatible with Vista?
The reason I ask is I was poking around on the link you posted and saw "General Requirements" listed, and Vista was listed.

Where did you find that information? All I can find is XP compatability.

They are supposed to release the updated version which will be Vista compatible this month...I haven't seen the release notice yet...hopefully within a couple of weeks.

I went to 'Already Have Active Virus Shield? - Click Here" at the bottom.
Then on the next page, "Information About Active Virus Shield".
Scroll Down and you will see a list of General Requirements, Vista is listed.

I guess it is compatible now, I just downloaded it the other day and the size of the file had changed so I guess they updated it. I say go for it, KAV has been compatible with Vista for a while now so you should be ok.

Not that I worry about Vista til this Sept/Oct....I refuse to support it until then. But good deal for home users.

Well I bought a laptop at the end of April and it came with Vista Home Premium. It hasn't been too bad, once I cleaned off all the Acer programs that were pre-loaded and bogging it down.

Has anyone tried the latest version of Active Virus Shield with Vista. I would like to know before I go thru the hassle of uninstalling Anti-VIR, then trying to install Acive Virus Shield.

Just downloaded AVS, will try in the next few days.
MNOSTEELE52, I was still surprised to see you recommend this, since it says brought to you by AOL. Most techies I know swear off anything AOL. Maybe they are distributing it though, but not the creators of it.

AVS is Kaspersky minus some important features, it only gives you the file and email scanning. AOL basically just distributes it since they purchased the rights to use Kaspersky, so it's not really an AOL product at all.

BTW, finally got around to downloading and installing Active Virus Shield on my Vista PC, it DID NOT work. Driver incompatibility then I had to do a System Restore to the manual restore point I made prior to uninstalling Anti-Vir, which even Anti-Vir wasn't working and I had to let it's repair run.
This is the AVS I downloaded back on 7/5/07.

Qui-Gon John I have had an issue lately trying to install AVS in Vista, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so I like you have been using Anti-Vir for my clients who want a free program. You can try and download the right version of AVS from HERE (http://download.nullsoft.com/avs/AVS_v25.exe)(direct download) and try it if you like.

I have AVS on 2 of my 3 XP machines, so far. My impressions is it seems to make the computer run a bit slower than AVG, at times. But, if it is giving me better protection, I can live with the little bit slower. It also seems to take quite a bit longer to do a full scan, than AVG.

How do I incorporate a manual download so AVG AS sees it?
I downloaded the latest .bin file, (u7aspydb2855u2246a3.bin) but now how do I make AVG AS see it. I looked in Program Files\Grisoft\AVG AntiSpyware\Signatures and it seems the files there are several smaller files for each date.

Keeps coming up invalid license. Then I reenter and it says OK. But when I run update, same error comes up.
