View Full Version : Router question, i know this is gen discussion forum but ..
I received 2 wire router from my ISP and they wont give us password for the advanced features saying we could damage the router. My question is, once i received and payed for the router its my right to have all the features available.Or am i wrong ? Tomorrow is technician coming to fix my ADSL internet and i'm installing keylogger to get password for the advanced features and i'm planning posting it on dslreports.com with link over here.Good idea or bad idea ?

Hell yeah man..if they won't give it to you...that's a great way to get it.
If you own the router then you should have all access and rights to it.

Sounds like a bad Idea, if you get the password then just use it yourself, no need to possibly draw attention to yourself by posting it publicly.
I dont know, depends on Philip really, if they will ask for my IP is he gonna give it to them ? :D
But YOS its gonna leak one way or other imo.
And yes fastchevy i bought it and i want the most of it, its mine and i can do with it whatever i want.

Is it a straight up 2wire or is it branded by your ISP? Maybe they've put their own firmware on it.
I tried googling it, but that suggests that the advanced settings are teh router options and the basic settings are for dsl modem, is it a modem and router? If so and your using it as a router then I dont know what more advanced settings there would be.

Its modem and router in one ADSL2 ready.
2Wire Modem's MDC
read it over here every one is pretty much pissed, the password to the MDC console will allow you to take a look if you are receiving bad signal and tons of other features.http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16660023~days=9999
Why do we all just accept the fact that we don't have total control over something we supposedly own?

Sounds like dialow explains why its not needed in that thread, just some diagnostics settings added in. I can understand both sides.

There's isn't much there..most ISPs set them up so when you first get it..you setup your password. I can't stand those 2Wires...ugh.

I hope they are gonna fix my connection tomorrow  , 3rd technician is coming i have to force him to log into modem so i can catch the psw :D

Might indeed be better than the DLink...DLink's done very well with their newer 4000 series routers...but I wasn't crazy about their past products..so saying it's better than that..to me, still doesn't say much.
But...I don't like their weak wireless strength, poor range
Their web admin is like they evolved on a whole different planet, I don't like they way they do port forwarding by netbios names
It seems their wireless drops if someone just sneezes or a bird flies by
Overall, I prefer a dedicated pure bridged modem, and a separate dedicated router.

Thats what i had before.
Then they forced me to use this thing.Honestly? I hate it.
Anyway technician is coming in a few hours, key loggers are stealth and hidden not even listed in system processes :D
I will update you this afternoon, yesterday i started uploading my encode when my ADSL started droping again i was soooo pissed. It lasted 7 hours now its back in sync.Still using cable atm.
WIsh me luck guys i really want this thing fixed so so much.
Technician is still not here :irate:
I'm gonna call them i'm loosing it now
Damn i got all kinds of passwords but not the right one !!! :irate:
If i'm gonna loose sync again they are changing cables from my condo to the box ...well good luck with that.
And yes you were right 10 000 feet is np at all.
ok its "fixed"
After tech left i started loosing sync again :rotfl: so i called technical support and i told them im pissed and they do have 3 choices ...put me back on 2.5, send me technician tomorrow who knows what he is doing and not some idiot like the ones what i got before, cancel my internet.
In 5 minutes i was back on 2.5, i dont care about the download, upload is important for me, i got 800kb/s download on my cable.
Now i'm "satisfied", i lost 100kb/s downstream but screw it i dont download too much anyway. Now i just have to wait for ADSL2 to roll out and its gonna be this year in december and box is gonna be 300 feet from my condo.
