SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com), I found this program a few days ago and tried it out, seems like a very good program and it's FREE. They offer a Pro version with real-time protection but the on demand scanner is completely FREE. The developer seems very sincere in making his product the best it can be and is open to any suggestions and any new malware submissions.
Just thought I'd pass it along and see what everyone thinks about it.

This guy's been trying to push it hard over at Wilders forums for the past 6 months or last fall or so...hasn't received a big welcome yet by the usual "overly super cautious crowd" over there. He got beat up pretty bad in one long thread..something about this program adding zones to IE, an adware, having the same icons as some SpySheriff programs, and "phoning home without permission".
Based on that..I kept away from trying it. I take it you've given it a few test drives? How's the scanning times? Seemed stronger than Ewido and SpySweeper in detection? Find it able to handle any of the brutal ones like smitfraud variants?

Yeah, I read some of that thread, pretty funny to me, some people are too skeptical. Everywhere I've read the guys responses he's seems to be very knowledgeable and sincere. He has definitely listened to people with scanning times, it seemed fast to me, I didn't time it but it was much faster than ewido for a full system scan, although thoroughness is much more important to me than scan speed. I haven't used it on a really bad infested system yet, that's the true test, but I'm sure I'll get to do that very soon. Some guys I know on other forums who are extremely good with malware removal have been suggesting it so I tried it and thought I would pass it on. It definitely seems like an excellent freebie to add to the list of tools.

Agree...some of them over on those boards..wow..I get a kick out of it...it's like they worry and fret and scan scan scan scan 23.5 hours a day with a dozen programs...they bite their nails as they use their PC for 30 minutes..then repeat the process over. Overkill x10 sometimes.
So from what you've seen..it doesn't have any ads buried into the install?

No ads, no bundled software, nothing out of the ordinary. During the install it asks if you will send data to the company for research purposes but you can opt out of that. I saw nothing suspicious at all about the program.

Its definitely the slowest, and scans the least amount of files in quick scan, based on its speed for that I wont even try the full scan.

Do you have the latest version YOS? Supposedly they have improved the scanning times, I didn't try anything but the latest version and it scans fairly quick on my pc.

Ya tried the latest one, takes 4 and a half minutes for its quick scan, adaware takes like 45 secs, and like 3 mins for the full scan and spybot takes about 2 mins.
Quick scan only scanned about 13,000 files on my system, thats pretty useless.

Well that's not too bad.... and it's free. What's most important is it's detection rate, I'm sure I will get to test that this week when I get a badly infected pc.

Its slower and scans less than other free stuff so I would say its bad, it missed 2 registry things adaware got, little things though.
if it takes 4 1/2 mins for 13,000 files(files and registry entries) then on my system with 143,000 files... whats that, 50ish mins, screw that lol

"Shotgun effect" is good IMO...another tool in the arsenal... :thumb:
And if this can with the Smit variants...time will tell. Hope there's something out there that can deal with them...they're tiresome.

I tried it on my machine and on some co-worker's PC as well.
Took about 35 minutes on my home PC and a little longer on the other (I stopped it cause I was leaving for the day)
Would I use it again probably not.

I've just never been concerned with scanning times, if I like I can schedule it in the middle of the night. When you clean up as many malware infested pcs as I do (and YOSC) then thoroughness is much more important, most of the time I set it in the corner and let it scan. A program that finds and removes more than others is a great asset to my arsenal of tools. This program seems to use little resources as well, so scanning in the background isn't a big issue. If you read what the maker of the program says he is very in depth in his reasoning for such an in depth scan and is very open about how, why, what etc. it scans.
I'm not trying to go against you guys, you just need to stop worrying so much about how long it takes.

Scanning times are very important, not so much for my PC because I could schedule a scan when im away, but when I'm working on someone else's PC, it matters alot, if this, adaware, ccleaner, spybot and a virus scan all took 50 mins, it would make that a PITA to do to help out friends.
The full scan may be very indepth, but the quick scan is a joke, and from what I've seen, useless. Its not bad, its just not fast.
I use ccleaner, adaware, spybot, whatever virus scanner is on whatever PC, then install spyware blaster, and unless theres one of the nasty spywares, its all set usually. If that doesnt kill the stuff, i'll format, and probably have windows up before a SUPERa scan is finished.
But hey Steele! Dont let these comments stop you from posting about new scanners, I like trying new ones out!

Re:scanning times and
That particular machine (aka co-worker) anytime I need to do work on it I have to start like after 4:00 sometimes 4:20 and I leave at 5:00 and I'm not staying over.
Others I can do at noon and come back before 1:00 and see what's up.

I downloaded and ran SUPERAntiSpyware, this afternoon and it found eight entries that neither Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, PC-cillan or AVG Professional found. I am not really sure how long it ran because I started it and left for town. When I got back it was done.
To me it was the fact it found the entries, not the time it took.
Never knew a computer could pick up so many bad things so quick.
I have eliminated a lot of stuff, but I still have some issues. I will post a HiJack file and would appreciate if someone would have a look at it and give me a few recommendations.

I downloaded SAS yesterday and scanned with it. It found nothing, my computer was clean. But it took around an hour i think. That was a full system scan.
I'd recommend it, it's very easy to use, and doesn't half-crash your pc when you're trying to use it.
Cheers.
