View Full Version : More then 1 wireless router or AP?
I am configuring 2 wireless router/AP in a WLAN. I am wonder how the SSID and IP address work for each others. Any expert please check my configuration is it correct?
wireless router/AP 1
- SSID = "AP1"
- Authentication = "WPA"
- Network key = "111111111111"
- IP range from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254
wireless router/AP 2
- SSID = "AP2"
- Authentication = "WPA"
- Network key = "222222222222"
- IP range from 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.254
Thank you
Do you want them connecting to two different networks? Or do you want to be able to roam from one to the other on the same network seamlesly?
Your setup, if you run each on a seperate channel, would be connecting to seperate networks. You could set them up probably even in the same area and not have interference. If you want them to be one large network that extends out you need to setup on the same SSID and IP range.

For the same WLAN...keep the SSID the same. Can leave the channel on auto, or manually do a different channel. Makes the IP of each IP is unique, and outside the DHCP pool of the router. Something like 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.1.253. Same PSKs also.
With conventional home APs..if you're walking around with your laptop..moving from one AP to the other will not be totally seamless..but it'll auto pickup rather quickly. You need to go to business grade APs to get true "roaming" features. But for home use..the above works fine if you need to blanket a larger area.
