Windows Startup

I noticed the windows seems to hang on startup, because I think its trying to get an IP address from the network but its hooked up by PPPOE so it can't get one.
Is that an accurate assumtion?
Is there any way to work around that?

right click on the network neighbor hood icon and choose properites.
Where it says Primary Network Logon, choose Windows.

Are you using Zonealarm by chance? Reason I ask is mine hangs on startup on occasion. I believe it has to do with the "Truevector" in Zonealarm`s latest version causing some kind of conflict.

I`m currently running ME, but also did it with 98SE.
