I made the mistake of using Plextor's Web service to resolve a problem with my CD RW and the technician had me change my HD controller driver to Standard Dual PCI EIDE Controller. Win 98 came back with "Your multi-function (Dual PCI Controller) has some child devices using 32-bit devices...This configuration is not supported. Your computer has been halted to prevent corruption. After you restart your computer Windows wil use compatibility-mode drivers for each child device attached to this multi-function device. Contact your hardward manufacturer for an updated driver or disaable this device."
After trying several remedies by the same technician, I re-formatted my C: (System) drive and reinstalled Win 98. But windows apparently had stored this information somewhere and it reinstalled the drivers I wanted to get rid of.
In Device Manager, under Hard disk controller, I have these three entries:
Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
VIA Bus Master PCI IDE controller.

What SHOULD I have listed as drivers for this ABIT KT7A board?

Since I reinstalled Windows, at least I now have access to my CD ROM.

Did you make a format c:/q? In this case you did'nt format C:, just fooled the system into believing it had been formated, but the HD was actually never deleted. Got to My Computer, System Properties, Device Manager, an there select hard disc controllers and delete them, afterwards do a cold reboot.
Anyway, I can tell you that I own a Plextor 8432T, and WIN98SE, and I've never had any trouble, just make the CDR master in the second channel
