how do i make my Windows Media Player my default player again?

If there isn't a back to default then reinstall it.. unless it will make you lose all your info

which one? WM player 7 or 6?

if its 7, (the player must be in regular, not compact mode for the toolbar to be available) go to tools->options->formats and then try unchecking the boxes, restart, and then do the same thing only recheck the boxes again. that should work for that.

something along the same lines can be done with 6, but i cant remember the exact path (and i think there is a "select all" button on 6's options page).
