Ive had more BSOD's with Win2k in 2 days than I have had with win98 in two years. It runs very sluggish, I get this one where it says error in win32.sys, dumping physical memory. Then another, which says "Load page error.

Dumping physical memory to disk: 1, 2, etc and it counts forever.

Heres my stats at follows:
Today formatted:
Win2k SP1, on NTFS
30gig 5400 HD
Duron 600
ABIT KT7A
320mb PC133 Ram

Ive never seen a more sluggish pc since my 486.

It sounds like it might be a HW config problem. Did you check the Device Manager for any conflicts? Also overheating will cause BSOD's no matter what the OS. Is your system overclocked?

Yes, the system is overclocked.

But still, even when running at defaults (reset CMOS) its boggy as hell.

I think Prey is leading you in the right direction with the config problem, did you install the op-sys while the system was overclocked? I've heard this can cause problems.

See if this helps. http://members.home.net/tweakshots/here.bmp

Hey Jon, from the View menu select "Devices By Type" and then post a SS.

I did install it while it was OC'ed, is that bad?

Try and find out what HW is conflicting there in the "Other Devices" section, that might be your problem.

Its just my PC camera. Still got errors before that.

It depends, if it is mildly overclocked probably not. If you are pushing it to the limit, you mave lose some data while installing the op-sys. If you are playing a game and the comp locks up, you just reboot. If you are installing the op-sys and your RAM drops some data or something you might get some grief later on. It may just be me, but I never install the op-sys while the computer is oc'ed, as a precaution.

I noticed I have over 5 things on 1 irq. How can I change this?

That's a fun game, usually you have to move the card to another slot, reboot and see what changes have been made. The good thing is Win2K handles IRQ's much better than Win98SE.

I've spent many hours doing the card/slot disco.

jon,
I would recommend formatting w/out the sys ocd. I had the same problem once, my computer would just randomly reboot for no reason at all. It was caused by installin 2k while my comp was overclocked. Also try Standard PC for the CPU type when you are first installing. Im not sure if its f3 or f5 that you press. try pressing both a few times when set-up first starts, right after it brings the prompt for a scsi device.

Formatted once again, still slower than a dog, even without the NIC, Sound card, etc.

BTW, im posting from win98 machine.

Win2k has been the worst experience of an OS Ive ever had.

I wonder why it is so slow for you. I'm wondering if a piece of hardware or a configuration setting is slowing it down. Most people rave about it, you're one of the few that I've seen not like it.

Ive noticed with just some simple tasks, the CPU usage is at 100%, which I know it shouldnt be. It lags around bad.

Hey Prey
Glad to find you in here.....can you help with a BSOD I am getting in Win2k?
"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"...it is not consistent, but after reboot all is fine.
Have you seen this error or know of what MAYBE causing this BSOD?
Thanks for any assistance you can supply.
P.S. I am still searching Microsoft to see if they have anything.

Don't worry I have the same IRQ config as yours, but I never had a problem with it runs smooth as silk. But I also don't have a SBlive card either.
I have my network card, onboard sound, usb ****,vid card all on one IRQ but no conflicts at all.

I have also tried that removel stuff nope go keeps putting all the stuff on 1 irq anyway.

Hope I'm not showing my ass here, but I think that's normal. I can't remember exactly but I think it's some type of idle command running in the background for the micro.
