I am currently having issues with my new Dell Inspiron laptop using the Intel Pro 3945 wireless adaptor. I am able to connect without encryption with no issues. As soon as I try to connect using WPA-PSK I have issues acquiring a valid network address. I am using a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router. My desktop computer connects with the same WPA-PSK with no issues. Any thoughts? I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for this chipset. I am at a loss as to what could be the issue. I am currently running my wireless setup without encryption using MAC filters to prevent anyone from connecting to my network. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome to Speedguide Mike:), sorry to inform you but that is about the worse wireless chipset made. Every time I have setup a wireless setup with that chipset I have nothing but problems, I had it so bad once I had to buy the client a Linksys card for his laptop for it to work..... not a single issue since.

You can try what i posted on my forum HERE (http://www.drtweak.com/index.php?topic=151.msg417;topicseen#msg417) and see if it helps.

I love Centrino chipsets....can't put any more smile on my face when I have them to support.

A few days ago helped a buddy setup a new Dell laptop he got his wife..they had a DLink router..couldn't connect very well.

Upgrade firmware on router..older router, think it was a 614 or 624, helped a bit. Older firmmware isn't always compatible with newer wireless chipsets.

Changed default channel from 6 to 100..got a bit better...

Bit improvement when I disabled the performance mode..as DLinks seem to have their proprietary "performance modes" enabled for some oddball reason...it's compatible with their own wireless NICs..but suck arse with many other wireless chipsets. In this case..under advanced tab, performance button..disable 4X mode.

Thanks to you both for your suggestions! I was able to get my wife's wireless to work with WEP 128 bit encryption. I never did figure out why WPA-PSK didn't work, but at least my wireless network is secure now. I did follow your advice and disabled the 4X mode. Thanks again!

Follow any of these? No reason to drop to WEP...granted better than nothing...but I'd still shoot for WPA.
