C:\Documents and Settings\Frank Smith.FRANK-0F2DB6021> says my MTU should be 1500. but I'm on PPPOE and the ISP defaults to 1488..
How do i reset the router back to 1500 using PPPOE . when it defaults back to 1488 on reboot.?? or does this matter..
Airspan WiMax wireless modem - my provider shows IP s0121@wsip-70-182-237-106.ks.ks.cox.net.. my speeds are avg thru 1.1mbps DL and 2.1mbps upload..If I install the software my ISP [provides] WinPoet from FinePoint I have major problems... so have removed and use LinkSys Router or make my own connection via Win XP default.. any suggestions - Thanks confused in Coldwater, Ks..

Who is your ISP?
What make/model "modem" do you have?

my ISP is www.unitedwireless.com and the modem I can not see.. but its made by Airspan, encased outside the trailer on a roof mount. What I can read on the bottom of Modem is SPR 700mhz TDD V-pol WipLL VDF 4.80.0.25

Info for the ISP is Ucom.net or http://portal.ucom.net I

Are you sure your ISP uses PPPoE?
Are you on WiMAX or earlier versions? The data center we partner with uses Motorolas predecessor to WiMAX...their Canopy system..and they don't use PPPoE....just 1500 MTU on any routers I use on his setups.

The subscriber modules sits in between the router I use...and the ISP tower (basically outside of whatever window is highest at my client..looking the tall building our office is in)

Yes, the ISP sent CD's to all customers, and we have a username and password supplied by them, the CD includes WinPoet by Fine Point (conflicts with XP SP3), so I use PPPOE in WinXP to signin..or LinkSys router set to PPPOE.
This is (by the ISP)an upgrade. First stage all info from Portal.ucom.net was
700 Mhz WiMax uncapped using AirSpan SPR Modem, not PPPOE. called Wireless DSL "What is United Wireless Internet?
United Wireless Internet uses the licensed 700mhz spectrum." "What kind of speeds should you expect?
We offer a best effort kind of service. This means we don’t cap your bandwidth." They are very tight lipped about what they use...this system has only been online since Nov/Dec 2005.

Yeah use the native PPPoE support in XP if you can, or better yet..your router. I've used WinPOET before..back in the Pre-XP days..with 2K, 98, etc.

The router should definitely stick to 1492 if you manually set it to that.

I have changed the Router from Disable to Enable and set MTU at 1492.. where things check/test better than the 1488.. set by the ISP...
