Earthlink Zyxel ADSL Modem and Wireless Router

Greetings,

We have been successfully using Win98SE, Earthlink, a Netopia ADSL modem, and a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for over a year. The modem fried (no power and smelled hot) and Earthlink sent a replacement Zyxel modem.

We are unable to get the router to work with the new modem. The setup routine goes O.K. until the test of connecting to the internet. Does anyone know if the Zyxel modems are configured by Earthlink to prevent using a router? I've done the setup routine a few times before after power failures and had no trouble until now.

in your address bar type 192.168.1.1 you enter your modem it will ask you to setup your own password. login go to setup wizard changed the box that says routing to bridge logout you should be good to go good luck. also make sure your network cable is plugged in from your cpu to the modem :thumb:

These instructions don't exactly work anymore. Earthlink seems to have messed with the wizard so the option of using it to change from router to bridge mode (what you want to do) isn't available anymore. However if you go into the advanced configuration mode you can still change it. I'm not hooked up to the modem anymore so I can't give exact directions on getting to the right page. It was something like Settings>WAN and maybe one page deeper. But if you poke around you'll find a drop-down box that lets you select between Bridging and Routing modes. Make sure to hit the APPLY button after you change the setting. You can verify the change on the STATUS page.
