Hi,

I have a Netgear wireless router (WPN 824 Rangemax) set up as an Access Point. I have been able, with some minor problems, to connect for the past year. I have a Netgear PCI wireless card (WPN311). I need to receive my wireless signal 5 floors up from where I live. I was told to purchase a D-Link repeater (DWL-G710). I cannot for the life of me get the Netgear router to work with the repeater. In the Router management panel, it finds the repeater, but the IP address is always blank and the device name is not listed. However, the MAC address is there. When the repeater is attached to the Netgear router, the WPN311 always chooses the repeater to connect to, but I can never connect to the internet with the repeater and I get a Windows message that the wireless network has limited connectivity or no connectivity. Once I disconnect the repeater all works again.

It seems the repeater can connect to the router, but the router must be doing something wrong as there is no IP listed and no device name, only the IP address. And, while I can connect to the repeater, I cannot access the internet.

It seems there must be some setting I could change. I spoke to Netgear about this and they said I needed to get another Access Point. Does that make sense? Isn't the idea to take 1 access point and repeat the signal?

Thanks for any help or suggestions of what to try. I have tried having the repeater on different channels, but then the WPN311 doesn't even find the wireless signal at all, though I can see the repeater is connected to the router. I have upgraded firmware for all devices.

Thank you!

I've fiddled around with WDS/Repeating a little bit..the one main conclusion I came to...when attempting it, stick with same brand gear.
