I'm in the process of getting DSL fron Verizon. They apparently have a limit of 18,000 ft from the CO. I just read an old thead where the person claimed he was 20 miles from the CO and had DSL. I'm a little over 20,000 ft. Will this be a problem. My sign-up date has been delayed and I was wondering what they are doing to cause this delay.I did call to ask but didn't get a satifactory answer.

18 thou is a common cutoff point..some ISPs stop at 22,500 feet.

Verizon may be hesitating...perhaps there's a remote station being litup closer to you...thus closing the gap. Without knowing their upgrade plans in your area..hard to tell.

Someone said "20 miles"? Hmmm...I'm somewhat doubting it. I've heard of some GLite DSL flavors being sold by some ISPs to go ove 24,000 feet...but I've never heard of anything past 30,000 feet..certianly not over 100,000 feet like 20 miles would be.

DSL is very distance sensitive. To much distance (in the amount of wire not necessarily shortest line) and it just won't work. They are likely planning and testing to make sure they can provide you with service. Hopefully they are doing that anyway, and not just going to install and charge for soemthing that doesn't work.

As mentioned it is possible that a new station is coming up that would bring you within the limits and the wait is for that to be up and running. What was the answer you were given when you called the ISP?
