I just installed a Linksys WRT54G with my Wild Blue Sat. system, works good except my wireless link only connects at 54Mbps while my desktop that is hard wire through the router is connected at 100Mbps. I noticed on the box that this was the correct speed. I was told (not a realiable source) that the wireless connections should be the same as the hard wired one. I tried setting my laptop next to the router, have an excellent signal , still only 54Mbps, would the speed booster model increase this or is this just the way the router works, by reducing the speed. Is this normal? Are their any other models that share the same speed as the hard wire, or is it just an issue with power needed, the speed is OK, but would like my laptops to run at the 100Mbps if possible. Thanks for some input. :irate:

You wont get any faster than 54...

For the old WRT54G model...yes..that's what you'll get...54 megs is top speed for "G". (realistic transfer of roughly 1/2 of that)

If you want realistic 100 meg speeds...get a Pre-N/MIMO model, like the wrt54gx4(srx400)..with matching NICs. These SRX Pre-N/MIMO units have been about for about a year..and have matured with firmware updates.

The wrt300n (draft-N) unit which recently came out is still going through some firmware maturation.

The speeds for internet usage will still be the same though. You need to keep in mind that most home internet services have not yet reached 10Mbps. Unless you do a lot of LAN transfers wirelessley then just stick with what you have as I would bet you never notice any difference.
