Ok, here it goes.

I know I'm not computer expert or anything, but I can solve a simple problem or two, but this isn't nothing simple, at least not to me.

Lets start from the begining.

I have Charter high speed broadband with a D-Link DI-604 router with three computers on the network, two PCs and a laptop.
I had to re-format one of the PC's (a 2 year old Dell Dimension 4600) a few days ago. After re-installing Windows XP and getting the machine to run again I ran the network setup wizard to get it connected with the internet again. It failed to work even though the computer is physically connected to the router with an ethernet cable. I cannot access the Dell through any of the other computers on the network even though items on it are shared and it is connected to the router.

So is it just me or am I missing a step? Or is my PC just screwed and I should give up. I could use some help, and before you ask I am posting from the laptop running off of the same network, same router, same connection. All the other computers are working, and this problem arose only after I re-formatted my Dell.

Thank you all for your time and your help.

Try giving the computers an ip manually http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=177

computer 1 would be
Ip 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1

Dns would be 192.168.0.1

computer 2 would be
ip 192.168.0.3
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
