i'm well experience in windows xp, 2000 and 98 i'm now trying to learn server setup
i have a win 2000 advance seerver cd i install on a P2 933 hp system with 256 memory, i enable active directory i want to set the pc up as a Domain controler on a network i have a linksys router that all the pc is connected into everything seems ok on ther server the only problem i have is when i set my laptop to join the domain it take about 5 minutes to log in to the network the connection seems very slow i disable dhcp on the router, is that normal i'm just using 5ft cable i do not have a internet modem connected just using router
is that normal for the connection to be that slow
i have a printer install on the server (hp p2 933 pc)and share it when i do logon to the network with my laptop and try to find the printer it take about 20 minutes until i finally give up is the connection supposed to be that slow

What are you using as the DNS server? It should be the IP of your Windows 2000 Server on all of the other computers in the network.

Also have you tried with anything other than the laptop? In other words is it a problem with the network setup in general, or the laptop specifically?
