Splitting from modem

Hello,

I was curios to know if I could split the cat5 line from my cable modem to PC.
The reason for this is I am going trough a Netgear wireless router and I am experiencing a good downstream loss through the router.

I would like to split the cat5 line from the modem into 2 lines, one to PC and one to wireless router.

Is this possible.
