My book keeper is coming tomorrow and I can't get my Ricoh printer to work ever since I changed my router from my old DLINK to the Linksys WRT54Gv4 with latest firmware.

According to Linsys, there's no configuration needed and yet I cannot ping my printer in dos. I made no changes to my computer setup protocols at all, only changed the router.

1) In the Add Printer Wizard Click on the Next button.
2) In the Local or Network Printer->Select "Local Printer attached to this computer." and remove the checkmark from "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer." Click on the Next button.
3) In the Select a Printer Port, Click on the "Create a new port:" and Select "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the list. Click on the Next button.
4) The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard will appear. Click on the Next button.
5) In the "Printer Name or IP Address" box put in the LAN IP Address of the Gnet gateway: default is: 192.168.123.254. In the "Port Name" box put in a Name for your printer: "Ricoh laser".
6) In the "Additional Port Information Required" window, choose "Custom" and Click on the "Settings" button.
6) In the Port Settings Window, for the Protocol setting, Choose "LPR", for the LPR Settings, put lp (lowercase "L" and lowercase "P") in the "Queue Name" and put a Check mark in the "LPR Byte Counting Enabled" box.
8) Ignore the "SNMP Status..." settings and Click on the "OK" button, which will take you back to the Additional Port Information Required page. Click on the Next button.
9) On the "Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" Click on the Finish button.
10) In the Install Printer Software screen choose the Manufacturer of your printer and the model of your printer from the lists and Click on the Next button.
11) In the Printer Name box, if Windows XP has not put a default name in the box, put in a name that matches the make and model of your printer. Click on the Next button.
12) The next screen is the "Do you want to print a test page", "yes" is already selected so just Click on the Next button.
13) On the "Completing the Add Printer Wizard" page, click on the Finish button.

When I ping the printer IP in cmd, the requests times out for the IP of the printer. Not only that it changes the pinged IP in prompt to IP_192.168.123.140?

:(

Sounds like the printer was set to get it's IP from a DHCP server (in this case your old router) and so when you connected the new router, it handed your printer a new IP address.

What is the IP address and subnet mask configured in the printer? You should be able to set this up statically.

What is the "Gnet gateway"? The IP you enter there should be the printer's IP.

I just went in to the configuration area of the Ricoh printer:

Ip is 192.168.123.140
subnet mask is 255.255.255.000
Gnet Gateway is 000.000.000.000
DHCP service is off.

OK, so when you get to step 5 from your first post, what happens when you enter this IP?

Well at first it said that the IP could not be used becuase it was already configured for another device. So I looked into Printer and Faxes/File Server Properties/Ports and found it being occupied by the Ricoh printer that was previously there even though I uninstalled it and try to install it again. Once I removed the port, it accepted the IP address. The problem is that even if I go into Start/RUN/CMD, I can't even ping the Ip address anyway...I'm really stuck!

And this is after I removed it and tried to reinstall it on the hopes it would resolve the situation:(

What is your computer's IP address and subnet mask?

Does your computer get it's IP address from the router?

By default the router would most likely hand out IP addresses in the 192.168.1.x class which means your computer would not be able to see something in the 192.168.123.x class based on the subnet 255.255.255.0

Ok, I clued in and it works!. Thank you so much for the advice. I clicked in when you mentioned that the IP could not be seen and changed it.

Thank you very very much:)

 Your welcome. :) Normally I'd be asleep by now, but I've got a lot of remote server work to do, so I'm still finishing up and prowling the boards between changes that I make on the servers.
