Okay, so here's my situation.

I've got a Verizon Business Class DSL connection (1.5M/384k) at my house that my mom has for work, but never uses, so I hijacked it and am running some servers off of it. That and I have a connection with Time Warner Cable that runs about 5.2M/384k that I use for all of my regular internet usage in my room because of the skyrocketing downloading speeds.

The Equipment Used:
Westell Wirespeed DSL Modem
Motorola PCX2200 Cable Modem
Linksys BEFW11S4 Router, used from Cable Connection
Linksys RT31P2 Router, used from DSL connection.
Netgear FS-526 24-Port Managed Switch

I want to be able to put both of those ISP's on one switch. The idea of different gateways came up but I was wanting to make sure that this is a legit idea before I start cutting and making Cat-5.

Would I have to statically assign these IP ranges to my computer, or is there any way that I can have them go DHCP? Like if the gateway for the DSL router is 192.168.1.1, would I have to put that in the computers I want for the DSL, and 192.168.2.1 for the cable PC's?

I work for an ISP, but I have been wanting to do this project on my own.

Input is appreciated, contact by IM too if you want.

Get a dual WAN router.

You'll need a real DHCP server, like from Windows Server...to be able to do that. The basic DHCP service on the home grade broadband routers will not allow you to change options like the gateway..the router gives itself as the gateway..nothing else. You can only edit the DHCP pool.

agreed, get a cisco 1700 with 2 wic1enets or something... as for the dhcp, if you already have a bunch of server boxes up just set up a dhcp server on one of them.

It might depend on the specific model 1700, but you can't use 2 wic1enets with a 1740; I learned that one the hard way and it says it right in the documentation. :o

The Linksys RV0 series are a good cost-effective dual WAN solution. :thumb:
