Linux Help?

I just recently installed Mandrake 7.0 and I've looked through all the howto's and what not's but I can't seem to get my cable modem working under linux and I thought maybe someone here might know how. I have a Toshiba PCX1000 modem and a NE2000 compatable NIC. I've used netconfig and drakconf and added the settings I thought were needed, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help at all????
