The line runs from the tap to the cable modem. It is first split to a TV next to the computer which is usually off. The house was not on cable but the line was in the home. There are no cable boxes in the home. Thanks.

I have a Toshiba cable modem hooked to a Linksys 4port router. It is connected to ATT Road Runner. I have upgraded the Linksys firmware. The problem is that the internet connection drops off after a certain time period and I must reboot the computers to get back on the net. There are two computers. I am running Windows 98SE. The vdhcp.386 file was modified before May 13, 99 but I cannot update this file as suggested by the RR web site. I have called Microsoft,Linksys, and ATT RR. No one has an aswer. The connections all appear correct as does the setup. Any help would be appreciated. Dan.

Is your toshiba model 1000? or 1100? We've had some issues with the 1000s and excessive heat from the power supply inducing noise on to the cable line which in turn would cause intermittent problems. If you do have a 1000, my recommendation would be to have your cable company replace it with a different model.

I lose internet connection about twice an hour, for about 2-4 minutes each. Pinging times out, nothing downloads, and uploads can't find the server. Is it my computer, or is it @home? I'm running a Terayon, all the relevant tweaks from here (THANKS!), Win98, ZoneAlarm. The cable is split with TV, but when they installed, they said the strength was great. Doesn't matter if TV is on or not.

Crazyman is right! I have a single line ran to my modem to. It is the same modem you have and it works great. Goodluck!

Dan, you should really have a direct drop to your modem. It should be right how the first split and should not have your TV connected to that line. You want your own line for the modem. The TV is probably cause some noise and disrupting the modem. Filters are usually placed on the TV side to prevent the feedback from coming back into the lines.
