I don't know if anyone else is running into this issue... but if you are, please help. I'm running Sygate on my server machine using PPPoE to a DSL connection. Both my server and client machines are using Windows Me. When I access Everquest, I get lots of intermittent lag on my client machine with occasional timeouts. Would anyone know have any suggestions on what can be done to fix this problem?

Cheers

Get this file its a registry entry that will give some buffer space to your server for the client machine
I know it says Win98 on it, I just havent had the time to rename it just yet. This is good for win98 win98SE WinME [and Win95 if everything has been updated]
keep in mind this is a registry patch so make a backup of your registry before using this

Last note:I have had this running for a year now I use Avirt Suite with ten other computers attached...

Ok thanks. I'll try it out. I appreciate your help. Just so I'm able to tell others intelligently, could you tell me what exactly this does? I'm not sure what the VxD\MSTCP is... and the MaxConnections=1000? I'd assume that Size/Small/Medium/Large=3 indicates Large packet size? Not sure.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP]
"MaxConnections"="1000"
"Size/Small/Medium/Large"="3"

10055 if you go to Microsoft and look up socks errors you will find that this number goes with a buffer handling error

MaxConnections in this case set at 1000 is probably a little over kill you could probably get away with less its baout 100 per client plus add the server so about 300 for the server would be good but hten again I'm not there so start with the 1000 now if for some reason you went and got Cablenuts patch it will change what we just did

Small medium large your assumtion is correct small is 16 or 32 bits cache medium 128 and large 256 its not so much of a packet size as it is more a memory size for it.

So now keep this in mind if you start to see an error on the server in IE lower the settings on the server. It may be bringing in to much info at once for IE

ruskin, thanks! I'll give that a try as well. I made the registry changes, but it didn't seem to help.

Just saw this on EQvault.com. Hopefully this will help you.

Gordon spoke about the datarate.txt file found on the EverQuest client in a recent response posted to the Gameplay Board:

Please can I have the number into this file explained to me?

Someone stated that it would help with dumps to Servers Selection Screen with cable modems.

I have the same problem.

It's a way for you to tell our server how fast you can accept data. The default setting of 5 is roughly where it should be for a 28.8K modem.
If you are running something faster than than, feel free to bump it up. If you start having system problems, getting knocked off, or anything of the sort, bump it down a notch.

I ran 9 on a 512K DSK connection without a problem. Your miliage may vary. Don't set it above 9 or below 3.

The main benefit of bumping it up is faster zoning, and less of a chance of getting kicked off in high-bandwidth encounters (such as dragon raids).
