ms office not responding

wheni try to open a ms word or excel file through network the applicaton hangs

please help me

Do a search for "normal.dot" delete what you find, try again

If that doesn't do it, go do
office.microsoft.com and download/install updates/patches.

i dowwloaded updates and security patches from microsoft , but when i try to install it says "the expected version of the product was not found in the system" iam using office 2000 and i downloaded for that only.

help me

It's MUCH easier just to let the Office Update scan your system, it behaves much like Windows update...detects what you have, and offers what's compatible.

Go to office.microsoft.com
click on the link towards the upper right that says "Check for updates"...allow the active x control to download...
