I have Adelphia cable in Scranton, PA. I am using an external SurfBoard 3100 cable modem. When I go to the configuration web page (192.168.100.1), I sometimes get 4 test failures in the DHCP category on StartUp. Even when this happens, my internet connections are fine and I don't suffer any connection problems.
However, when I get that startup failure, I simply release the IP and reboot the modem, then reknew the IP and the tests always pass.
Is this an issue that I should be concerned about? Is my modem failing? Lousy cable service?
Thanks,
-Tom in PA
PS: My connection speeds range from 700kbps to 1200kbps (128 upload).

Oh... here's the info I got during the config/startup:
Configuration Manager
Startup
This page provides information about the startup process of the Cable Modem. If there is a problem with the startup, the word "Failed" may appear in the Status column. Should this occur, visit the Help area and perform the Checkup procedures listed there. If the problem continues, click on the word "Failed" for more detailed information about the failure, or call your service provider for assistance.

Heh..if your cable service works don't worry about it.

Sometimes my Surfboard will fail a couple of tests on startup, and it's done this since I got it. No problems using the internet or any related apps, though.
I think that maybe the modem is looking for additional network features that the provider does not yet support?

As I read the error messages, the first error message occurs when the modem tries to talk to your computer. This may happen because of autonegotiation of the Ethernet speeds. I'd suggest checking to be sure that your NIC is set up for 10mbit half-duplex, not for autonegotiation.
