Hello,
I am currently using Rogers-Yahoo high speed internet. When I called and asked them about sharing the cable internet with a switch they said it was possible but later I found that I needed a router. Here is where my trouble lies..
When I plug my modem and two computers into the reuters it doesn't seem to pick up on the other end.. I get no connection at all. Sometimes however I will get one connection on one computer and none on the other, it's weird.
The way this works is you install their software onto your computer and it automatically connects when you turn the PC on. We have no username and passwords.
If anyone could help me with this it would be great..
Thanks,
Josh

That's true...you'll want to get a router to...
1) Share your broadband connection
2) Creates a private class C network behind the router...so you can do file and printer sharing, etc
3) Provides a hardware firewall for your network...very important. Plugging your PC directly into a broadband modem..your PC obtains a public IP address..you don't want that, it's exposed.

Do you know how I could get this to work though? I cant get both connected at the same time.
Connect the CAT 5 cable coming out of the modem to the WAN port on the router. Then run a CAT 5 cable from each of the PCs to one of the LAN ports on the router. Other than that it should work exactly the same as a direct connection.
You might need to check on the router settings though. My guess is you want to be getting an IP via DHCP on the WAN interface, and have DHCP enabled on the LAN interface.
If that doesn't help then I would shut everything down for a bit, and then turn back on as follows: modem (wait for all lights etc to stabalize as when in use), router (again wait for all lights tot ell you it is working properly), then PCs. Sometimes broadband companies use MAC addresses as a sort of authentication, and you changed your MAC when you introduced a router.

How do I change the DHCP settings? I'm a complete newbie at this.
You need to do it through the routers web admin page. Without knowing what model router you have it is impossible to tell you how to get to it. Just as an example though Linksys tend to use http://192.168.1.1, so look in the manual that came with your equipment.

The Router is: Netcore 2105NR Broadband Router
Never heard of that brand, and couldn't find anything from the manufacturer with Google. Check your manual for what the webadmin page address is, or anything on how to configure the router.

[QUOTE=McAuley187;1849735]Hello,

Rogers doesn't need any software installed when using a router. I would uninstall the software you refer to. Most routers by default select DHCP and you would probably just be able to connect the router's WAN port to your Rogers modem. Then connect your computers to one of the other ports on the router. No configuration is needed with Rogers.
You may want to shut everything down, then start them up one a time, starting with the modem (let the lights settle down before the next step), then start the router (again let the lights settle down before the next step), then start up one of the computers. That generally gets you connected with Rogers.

bump...
Holy crap! I've been searching the net forever trying to find the default user ID and Password to upgrade my firmware.
1. Download the latest firmware here: http://www.netcoretek.com/support.html
2. Go to http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser
3. Use the following info to get into you router controls:
User ID = guest
Password = guest
4. On the left click on System Configuration and choose Update System
5. Where it says "New Firmware File" click the Browse button and navagate to the file you downloaded and select it.
6. Click the Start Update button
Enjoy :)
(NOTE: If the above ID and password do not work there is a small hole beside the lights where you can insert a paperclip to reset to defaults)
