Help, please

I have a laptop and a Desktop running on a network using a router. I can share my internet connection fine and my desktop can acess my laptops shared files however my laptop cant acess shared files on my desktop. I have tried it with my Norton firewall and windows firewall disabled but even then it does not work. I cant ping my desktop from my laptop but I have had it working in the past, most likley while fiddiling with ports to get Azerus working on both computers I have changed something, but for the life of me I dont know what. Any help?

What if you completely shut down that dreaded Symantec firewall.

How would I do that, I can disable Auto Protect but there is no close button and it does not appear on application when you press ctrl alt delete.

Nope, Sorry didnt work. Manged to completly disable norton but no luck.
