Well as you can see I love online gaming, and I still play Action Quake 2. And if anyone has every played Q2 will know.. Ping is Everything!

Well I called last night and asked why my ping has jumped from 35-50ms to 150+ms during the hours of 530pm to 12pm. I felt from the way he was talking that he was just winging it so i said to him. Was there a new modem launched in the kingston area, that were not yet capped? therefore eating up all the bandwith? He said i was exactly right and they were working on the problem.

Well that was find and dandy but a few days later of getting my butt whoopped i decided it was time for another call....

This time the person on the phone said that there were always these uncapped modem and they had fixed the problem and everyone should be experiencing better servce. Also noted is that my modem is not one of the ones he said was uncapped because i have always had a crappy upload speed... I know this may look like I'm off on a rant here but I used to get the same ping with my local dialup and now i am getting it with cable???

Please help, information can i get on my end to tell the person whom I phone. How do I get this information? And what should I tell them to get results? Should I request a new cable modem, and whats the best thing to tell them to get a newer one?

BTW, I am in kingston, on. Using the InfoRanger SCM-100R.

I asked the guy on the phone what modems they had and he said the inforanger (white) one i have and a grey one??? Also he said they have a Com21 by Docsport atleast thats how he said he thought it was spelt. Sorry but after a 10 minute converstation with this guy and he comes up with "THE GREY ONE, and I THINK ITS Com21 docsport or something like that." Just doesn't do my confidence in him any justice.

Please help.

What you want to do is find out how many hops there are between you and the online gaming site. Also, remember, it is normal to have 10 ms pings on each hop. If you are getting better than that, more power to you, but, 10 ms between hops is normal. What I mean is, lets say you had 18 hops, that would be 180 ms. Happy gaming...

I am understanding what you mean about each hop adding time on. But thing is I am pinging my DNS numbers. And getting back huge numbers. Which a few weeks ago i was getting back a range from 13ms-23ms average over 50 packets. And now this is what it looks like over 10 packets. Sorry but this will be long..
