View Full Version : Linksys RV082 bandwidth monitoring
Hello I'm using a Linksys RV082 Firmware Version: 1.1.6.14
And I would like to monitor (in real time at the most) the current bandwidth, see what pages are being accesed at the moment, IPs, hostnames, and so on.
What software (easy use) do you recommend to me ?
(for Win platform)
Thanks.

Wallwatcher is a fairly detailed program you can run, enable logging on the router, setup wallwatcher with the IP of the router...let it go to down. Free, small download, 2x parts to install.
I have an RV082 at home...have used wallwatcher with it. Love those RV082 and RV016 routers btw! :thumb:

BTW...new firmware released yesterday or today..1.3.2. Upgraded mine at home...without a hitch, kept all settings.
Someone at dslreports noted that when they tried this firmware from the China site a few weeks ago, it slowed down his throughput.
According to Linksys, this firmware is supposed to really increase throughput...especially the VPN throughput..to about 90 megs at 3DES.
I did an online speedtest at home...before upgrade, hit 6200 down on my 6 meg cable. After upgrade..still hit 6200 down...upload actually went up a little bit.

New firmware performance boosts...
"For example, the NAT firewall throughput has reached 200Mbps (bi-directional wire speed) and the IPSec throughput (3DES) has a maximum over 90Mbps. "
Ok I downloaded it and installed it on my machine, when I ran the soft it detected routers' IP address but I see no logs, I can ping router from app but still having no graphics or logs, do I have to do anything from the router itself?
Thanks.

Yes...per the instructions with the wallwatcher...you need to enable "log reports" on the router itself....and enter the IP of the box you run wallwatcher on.
You'll want the rig you run wallwatcher on to have a static LAN IP, since you'll enter that in the logging section...so setup a reservation for it in DHCP.
hi, sorry to bother again, but i got stuck with that program, isnt there anything else easier, something like for dummies ?
Thanks.

There's "Linklogger"
http://www.linklogger.com/
Pretty much the same thing though.
On your router, log into the web admin page, click on the "Log" tab. Up top..you'll see a checkbox for "Enable Syslog"....put a check in it..and enter the IP address of the computer that will run your logger program.
On your computer that runs the logging program, you'll want to set it on a static LAN IP address. Help with that here:

On the logging program, you'll enter the IP address of your router, probably 192.168.1.1 if you're running your Linksys default.
That's it!
