e is speedstream 5100 modem or a router

It is able to do both.

You can run a game server on a dynamic IP from your ISP. But when you do port forwarding, you want your LAN IP to remain the same.

If you run ipconfig on your workstation and you pull a 69. address...then the Speedstream appears to not be running as a router. A bit scarey, as your maching is exposed with a public IP address...

Hence...there is no port forwarding to deal with.

Now, are you running any software firewalls? If so, you would have to open the ports required to run your game server.

As for getting a static IP address....you need to upgrade your account with your ISP. There is no way to do this for free...it's a higher grade service you need to pay extra for.
