Need a quick recommendation on a good brand of router for a small office setup (Just two PCs). I setup a Linksys BEFSR41 in a pinch about two weeks ago but like so many other Linksys that I have owned they keep having to unplug the power and plug it back in to keep it working. What is a good brand of router that shouldn't require this? On simple DHCP cable, no PPPoE or anything.

Based on the lovely hardware database ratings, I'm thinking Netgear.

TYIA,
Kyle

Never have any trouble with my WRT54G.

But staying away from linksys I'd probably look at D Link since its 2 PCs:

Says gaming router but it gets high reviews, and supports gigabit network, no wireless.

Wireless, 10/100/1000 for wired.

And a real cheap option:

I picked up a Netgear (Staples only has Netgear and Linksys) and I already really like the configuration aspect. Hopefully it will work well here for this small business.

I have that Dlink 604 at my dad's house, hated it when running 4+ PCs off of it, but it's not made for the gaming I was trying to use it for. Wouldn't mind trying the higher end ones though. Thanks Yard.

So then in reality you should have given then your 604 and got yourself a more badass router :D

my netgear 824 rangemax never has to be rebooted (knock on wood)..i generally do it once every 6 months or less frequently..so not never..but basically, i just let it run all the time, no problems..4 machines on it hammering it constantly :D

I highly recommend the D-Link 4100, hasn't given me any problems in the year or so I've had it.

Gigabit is a plus and the oversized NAT table prevents applications like BitTorrent from crashing the router.

Had a Linksys 8 port router for 5 yrs till it died. Been using my second Linksys 8 port router for 2 yrs and never had to reset it. I have 7 systems & a hub running off of it at any given time and have no issues. I don't understand why folks have issues with these routers, always work well for me.

For businesses....I use the Linksys/Cisco RV0 series...usually the RV082 or RV016 models. It's designed for business installs..."high availability"...meaning..it's designed for stability, the heavy loads of a business, and speed. Also has a built in VPN server so people can remote in from home...access their workstations.

Robust DHCP, SPI, built in managed switch that supports VLANs, priority settings, VPN, RV082 is an 8 port model, RV016 is a 16 port model.

It's a business, you want business features.

I've used Linksys products for my clients for years as well...I've installed literally hundreds of them. I used to use the BEFSX41 models...a bit better than the BEFSR series. It's a matter of using the correct firmware versions (all brands have firmware issues)...I also always plug them into APC battery backup units. I don't have reset or failure issues either.

I'm not a fan of Nutgear or DLink.
