I am attempting to install XP Pro on my machine. However, there seems to be an issue with the promise controller to use the S-ATA HD. The motherboard is a ASUS P4C800 Deluxe

I was running XP Home and in the BIOS it was configured as RAID and XP Home installed fine in the past. It was using 1 hard drive and writing to it, so it really wasn't raid, but it was using the controller to access it...

I went to upgrade to XP Pro and it is not showing the S-ATA HD in the list of partitions, etc to format to install XP Pro on. I tried to change in the BIOS to use the controller as IDE and that didn't work either. The only option for me to format is my HD that is a slave and that is not S-ATA ... it shows all of my linux partitons and other storage partitions on that drive. On the install I have tried to use both the RAID and IDE drivers from a floppy to see if it will recognize that S-ATA HD, but it doesn't...

I am at a loss for any other changes to make or ways to get it to recognize that drive...

Have you tried pressing F6 (I think) during the first part of installation when it asks for "Third party drivers" or whatever and installing them off the provided floppy? That confused me for a long time with my first SATA drive.

Yes.

I tried using the drivers for both setups. With the controller set for RAID and IDE. Both times it failed to show the HD

Only other guess is the wrong drivers, but I went with what it was showing during the boot and tried those... so I don't know...

Very odd, does the drive show up in the BIOS? Have you tried to get it working with the RAID controller disabled? I'm not sure if the single disk could be confusing it. It's gotta be something in the BIOS if those are the correct drivers. :wth:

Yeah, the drive shows up in the BIOS. I tried disabling the controller, but it still doesn't show the HD. It was working fine with a single disk before when I was running XP Home.

I have tried with the controller set as RAID, IDE, and disabled. With it set as RAID, I tried using the Promise FastTrak S150 TX2 Plus driver, previously it showed a FastTrak 378 driver (which I didn't see on the site - so I tried to guess what it would use). With it set as IDE in the BIOS it showed using SATA378 TX2 Plus drive and I used the SATA150 TX2plus driver on the Promise site.

Alright, disabled the controller and used a different channel not associated with the controller and now the drive is showing up under the windows install. Thanks for the little insight - pushed me to look for the solution which was obvious enough... now I only wonder why the previous install was working fine with the controller.... oh well...
