I am looking to replace my router (D-link 624 latest firmware) due to the following reasons. The router does not allow you to forward enough ports, to run VoipBuster. Also, the firmware is "flaky," everytime I go into the router software and make any kind of change, the date and time setting defaults back to 2002. The other problem with the this D-link is the fact that you have to use Explorer to update the router software...if you use Firefox the changes to the router software do NOT always "take" i.e., work.
I was looking to get recommendations on which would be the best all around router, good security, port forwarding, wireless, wired, etc.
I have not been able to find any "current" reviews of routers with comparisons.
Thanks!

For home grade broadband routers, one that supports wireless...the Linksys wrt54g version 1-4 are very much loved...especially since there are 3rd party firmwares out there which you can flash them with, which add lots of features. Such as Hyper-WRT, and DD-WRT. Note...not version 5..just 1-4.
Note that pretty much all of them require IE for firmware updates, they rely on the tftp support of IE.

I only use the Linksys WRT54GX4 (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1130279435381&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper) for all of my clients, it works flawlessly and has superior range and performance.
I have the same router as you have now, the Dlink DI624, it works great for me. The firmware can be kind of flaky, but the latest version on their site works perfect for me. There is no reason why you can't make changes to the router via Firefox, I do it all the time so there must be something else going on with the router. What firmware are you currently using with it?

I have the RevC version of the router, i.e., DI-625 RevC. The firmware version is 2.70 dated 8/31/2005.
I having been running this router for a while and overall it has been good. It just is that there is a problem with forwarding enough ports in order to host some games. I also have not be able to get it to work correctly with placing the hosting computer outside the DMZ.
I have been trying to review/compare/analyze the different routers currently available and it is taking some time. I have not been able to find a current article that does this comparison. Thus my request to get feedback from users to see what routers they use/like/recommend.

Yep, that's the same firmware I'm using and it works best for me. It sounds like you just need more or other features than the Dlink offers. If you still need wireless then I HIGHLY recommend the Linksys I posted above, I have setup 3 this week alone without a single glitch.

I have a Linksys WRT54G that I had no problems with until DSL arrived in my area. After subscribing to DSL the modem supplied by my provider kept locking up on me. Tried everything I could think of and everything they could think of to no avail. Bought a Belkin Wireless G Plus and haven't had any problems since. The DSL modem is a SIEMENS SpeedStream 4200 provided by Valor Telecom.
Tks
