Hi guys !
Sorry for my english
but hope u can help me with my dsl setting.
Arcor DSL 6000 (6mbit)
i make the speedguide test and have this result.
is it better to have the time to live hops 123 or better with standard ttl 64 and then i have 59 hops what is better ????
i hope u gice me some tips to make it better or is it the best i can do for my line

My MTU is a porblem of my router i think, i set it to 1476

MTU = 1446
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.
MSS = 1406
MSS is not optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 517408
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits (scale factor of 6)
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 64676

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
517408 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8) <-- current value
258704 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
129352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
64676 (MSS x 46)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 20696.32 kbps (2587.04 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 8278.528 kbps (1034.816 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF
Time to live left = 123 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

and the other tests i make here is the ping host and the tracer test pls give me some question for this results.

Try thease in the sg optmizer below me to download and install

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 64240
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - uncheck
Timestamps - uncheck
Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 5
Host Priority - 6
DNSPriority - 7
NetbtPriority - 8
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 240
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need. For a stand alone pc all you need is Internet Protocol TCP/IP.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer and set your duplex mode to "auto". If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
4. Clean out your temporary internet files with CrapCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com).
5. Power cycle your modem i.e. unplug it for at least 15 seconds.
6. Download, update and scan with SpyBot S&D 1.4 (http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html) EXACTLY as mnosteele has explained HERE (http://broadbandnuts.com/drtweak/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=41) & Ad-Aware SE 1.06 (http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download) EXACTLY as mnosteele has explained HERE (http://broadbandnuts.com/drtweak/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=40) to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster 3.4 (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES. If these 2 programs find a lot of things then please post a HijackThis 1.99.1 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html) log for us to look at.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in our Help & Tips (http://broadbandnuts.com/index.php?page=tiptrix) page.
8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it and search your pc for the left over files.
9. Install Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 (http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page7.html#Kerio%20Personal%20Firewall), it's FREE and uses next to no resources.
10. Do a FREE online virus scan from Kaspersky Webscan (http://www.kaspersky.com/beta), make sure to check the option to use the EXTENDED DATABASE.
11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

8) ;D

Hi mccoffee !

I do that what u say and this my results.
MTU = 1446

MSS = 1406

258704 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
129352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
64676 (MSS x 46) <-- current value
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 2587.04 kbps (323.38 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 1034.816 kbps (129.352 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

MTU is set in my on 1500 but dosnt work sh.. router :)
is this now better or makes me the new settings lower than before i take your settings test say
Your TCP Window limits you to: 20696.32 kbps (2587.04 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 8278.528 kbps (1034.816 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
is much more the yet.
i make a download test before i change the settings and after result is the same
max. [Speed:640,56Kbps

spys and addware checks are also ok, my system is new.

hi guys, Would one of you mind helping me on a question. I was wanting to know is it safe to unplug your dsl modem for when you go to sleep or are you suposed to leave it on? and another is, i like to play some online gaming with ps2 and other systems, so are you suposed to unplug the dsl modem when you switch the ethernet cord from the pc to the ps2 for example, or is it safe to leave it on while you do so? ty

No you can leave the modem on while moving the cat5 cable around, I prefer to turn all my components off except my computer so my router doesn't get flooded with log entries though. The modem can stay on for months, just make sure to powercycle every 2 or 3 months :)
