If I go to <speed.col.wideopenwest.com>
I get this result (or higher)
Your download speed : 9199 kbps or 1149.9 KB/sec.
That is 102.7% better than avg. other reports from comcast.net

Your upload speed : 355 kbps or 44.3 KB/sec.
That is 8% worse than avg. other reports from comcast.net

See, my Mac G4 isn't close the that DL...anywhere? Plus, it dropped by half a couple weeks ago and I've torn my hair out trying to figure out why (and fix it).

But, just this morning I've been getting overr 9000 kbps - - But only at that site? I'd like to believe it...Or, is is possible one site (out of several) is more compatable or..

Yeah - - -I expect this:
Connection is:: 1650 Kbps about 1.6 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)
Download Speed is:: 201 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net (server1)
Test Time:: 2006/03/07 - 8:50am
Bottom Line:: 29X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 5.09 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 34.22 % of your hosts average (comcast.net)

So, I've been getting 30%-70% of the Comcast average (the above is typical).
Then at speedguie.net...they show me over the average, plus...well, you tell me!?

(My XP on the same LAN/Router/modem/ is consisten at 6+MB/s - - - The Mac wuz - - - Then dropped by 1/2 compared to the XP)

Check out this FAQ: http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?category=88&qid=226

It is possible that the first site is either close to you, on one of your ISP's backbones, or it is on a lightly used path, so you get a much higher throughput than average.

A traceroute might give you a good feel of how far it is, and what other hosts are on the path to each of those sites.

I use wideopenwest so I know about their test site. The results are pure BS. Ignore them.

Give http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ a try at different times to different servers for a more complete picture.
