I was wondering, is there a way I can use something else than 192.168.0.* on my network? For example I would like to use 192.168.2.*. Is this possible with the DI-604?

I don't know for sure about that particular router, but routers I've had have the ability to change that to whatever you want through the setup routine.

Yes, you can change your routers IP address, read HERE (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1707&question=DI-514%20/%20DI-514_revC%20/%20DI-524%20/%20DI-524_revD%20/%20DI-524_revE%20/%20DI-604%20/%20DI-604_revE%20/%20DI-614+%20/%20DI-614+_revB%20/%20DI-624%20/%20DI-624_revB%20/%20DI-624_revC%20/%20DI-624S%20/%20DI-774%20/%20DI-774_revB%20/%20DI-784).

I know that. But from what I understand it's impossible for the router to have 192.168.0.1, as default and the nodes 192.168.2.*?

Believe that when you change it to what you want there that that becomes the default value. All other computers on your lan will have to be adjusted to the new ip address.

Correct. Change the routers default LAN IP....and its DHCP will roll with the flow...and adjust itself...which will ripple down to the clients. Any statically assigned workstations/servers will have to be manually reset of course.

No its not impossible to do. Just more work
If you wanna keep your router at the default but yet keep your computers at 192.168.2.* you would have to go into the network properties, and change the TCP/IP properties. You would set computer 1 to be 192.168.2.1 then subnet mask to default , the Default gateway you would set to be your router at 192.168.0.1 and the DNS you can place the DNS settings that your router is picking up from your ISP (example 24.29.99.35 and 24.29.99.36) which should be located on your Status page in the router.

You will have to do this for each computer you wish to set with a private network address. Any new computers will just pick up the default settings from the DHCP from the router by default.
