I believe the tweak worked for me but since cable usuage varies during the day and is at it's heaviest before early morning it's not going to be the same every single time..how could it? I'm still basically getting the same results since the tweak close to 1 mpbs or 2 mpbs. Some have contacted me and say this is all nonsense so I dunno do you guys think it's rubbish? I sure don't

I did the central computing thing after doubling recieve window and it might just be coincedence but did get this:

Your line speed:
2550 Kbps
312.5 K bytes/sec

Considering that the reputable people at http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cable_dsl.htm#SysiniTweak are pointing to this thread and SpeedGuide's use of this tip and disputing the logic behind this "tip," perhaps they should take down the system.ini page here on SpeedGuide.

Most people in this 3-page thread seem to have gotten little or no change with the tweak.

Too bad. I could've used a magic pill to help get my 6000' from C.O. DSL 1.5 meg connection higher than 125Kb/sec.

What if IRQ is single digit?

Irq03=4096

or

Irq3=4096

I just got this cable modem hooked up a couple of days ago. It is slower than hell. I am only getting 7kb out of it on those two sites that Brent had posted. What is going on?

I heard Windows bypasses this and this tweak does absolutely nothing but take up a couple bytes of your system.ini file, heh.

Will this tweak work if you have more than just the NIC on it. I have 3 things listed on the same IRQ.

1. 3Com EtherLink XL TPO 10Mb Ethernet NIC

2. Creative SB Live! Value

3. IRQ Holder for PCI Steering

They are all listed as 03. Will this allocate 8MB of RAM to each or divide it equally. If it will divide it equally. Should I change the tweak to "Irq3=12288"? Any help would be apprciated.

BTW I am using a DELL XPSB 667r MHZ P3 with W98SE and 128MB RDRAM@356MHZ

As a computer expert in hosting and cable modems, there is no such system ini setting.
Microsoft stated that windows will simply not reconize the command.

I did extensive testing with the command and did a windows start up logged.. in the text file made by windows, it says "FAILED: unsuccessful load of system.ini entry under (enh386) IRQ10=4084,unknown command."

You people will need to just tweak the ttl, and TCP RCV window and MaxMTU.

Hope this helps.

Andrew:

You need to work on the cable modem expertise.

It's not 'ICQ10=xxxx' it's IRQ (with an 'R').

Since this has been brought back to life I have never been able to get this to work. One thing I am probably doing wrong is setting the IRQ to one digit, mine happens to be 5. Does it need to be 05 for it to even possibly work? The example in the tweaks section is not very good as it uses a two digit number. Any way to change this if a zero must be placed before hand because the way it is now is a little confusing.

I was browsing around looking for patches to my ethernet card, Actually found one, Installed it and my speed stayed the same.
I dont remember how i even found this page.
But that tweek for the ethernet card boosted
my average download speed from 60kb sec to
avrageing 90kb sec.Ive had a constand d/l speed from that happypuppy sight (another member posted up for quake 3) at 103kb sec absolutely amazing difference. I allocated
8192 to my card and my sys has 192mb ram. MY
HAT IS OFF TO YOU RECORDLORD.

"What is an IRQ?"

I'm sure the people that say their download speeds jumped by 1,000 MB/s are saying the same thing as above.

I think this system.ini IRQ tweak is a myth and all of you people won't let it die.

An IRQ is a Port or Communications Channel between a piece of Hardware and the CPU. Each hardware gets a turn talking to the CPU, to take this turn they have to be assigned an IRQ (Interrupt Request) so they may talk to the CPU, basically Interrupt something else to send data back and forth to the CPU.

Think of it like this, a Huge group of people (the hardware) trying to all talk to ONE person (the cpu) at once. Now if they do this noone can be heard. So what they need is one channel or one room they can go into and speak with the person (cpu). Hence the IRQ

That is a big debate actually, weather this IRQ trick really is a myth or not, IMO I can see logically how this would benefit things... but in practice, who knows?

So anyway 2 people asked the same question and wasnt answered. I too want to know about the syntax for single digit IRQ's. Example ( Irq03=4096 ) or ( Irq3=4096 )?

-Thanks

can someone tell me what to download and how to install it?If your reaching your caps, tweaks/patches will not do anything more for you. If your not reaching your caps, try the appropriate Speed Guide registry patch (http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml).

Aw man, this did nothing for me. Maybe I will try removing the @home tweak by resetting to Windows default. If it works, I will post results.

I am one of those poor sour Cox@home customers.
