w-William M says, Hello can I have your name, address, phone number and @home email address please?
You say, scroll up a little I already typed that stuff in
w-William M says, How can I help you today?
You say, My connection is really slow today
You say, I have been having trouble with it for quite a while not getting good speeds
w-William M says, We are currently experiencing technical difficulties in your area, thank you for your patience while we conduct repairs.
You say, Regardless of the technical problems.....I have neverr gotten decent speeds, I have only been able to download at around 40 KB/sec
You say, no matter where or when I download
w-William M says, \Off where?
You say, everywhere at different times during the day
w-William M says, Those speeds are normal off the internet we do not guarantee speed
You say, Then why are there people getting faster speed than I when we pay the
same money?
w-William M says, They do and that is normal off the sites they are on sorry but as I stated there is no guarantee of speed
You say, I am going to have to consider cancelling my service if it does not improve. These speeds are terrible.
You say, What I am getting is not high speed nor "lightning fast"
w-William M says, Actually it is you are getting the average speeds off the internet like the rest of our customers.
You say, You should go to speedguide.net and read the broadband forum. there are people getting HUGE download speeds OFF THE INTERNET using @Home
You say, It's not fair.
You say, This chat will be posted there as a matter of fact.
w-William M says, Sorry but we do not guarantee your speed.
You say, What do you guarantee then?
w-William M says, We do not make any guarantees about anything that is just not possible.
You say, So what you are telling me is that you do not guarantee ANYTHING about your own service?
w-William M says, Is there anything else I can do for you today?
You say, How much speed would I get if I went with @Work?
w-William M says, We do not make guaranteed regarding such things as speed
or connection because technical difficulties always occurs and other factors not controlled by att@home.
You say, Ok, then what is the "average" speed with @Work?
w-William M says, Sorry for that you would need to contact them.
You say, @Home and @Work are 2 different companies?
w-William M says, Yes
You say, That will be all, you have NOT been helpful.

LOL, man I would call em', i hate chatting to them, so you can actully yell at them..thats the fun part! that 40k dl is a drag, hopefully they do some mainentrance to your area soon.....or you could try and see if there is DSL near by. It is true that @home dousn't garentee anything, but if its been that slow for about 5 months or over then i would consider canceling it...otherwise just wait a lil' bit longer. Someone might get off they're butt and do something.

Good luck!

It has basically been like this since I had it installed. It has been more than 5 months. When it was installed the guy even said it should be faster. I was using a download accelerator, and it works, but I quit using it because I wanted to see what kind of download speeds I was actually getting.

Well, if you haven't installed any tweaks, then its windows itself, you probably still have dial-up values that haven't been cleaned out yet, http://www.speedcorp.net/downloads/set_rwin.vbs run that and clean out all the dial-up values that you have, its the microsoft fix for it, it worked great for me, the only tweak i used.....

Timbo. I tried that and it does not run on Windows ME. I wish I could try it. Any other idea on how to clear out dialup settings?

Dont' take offense to anything I say, but can I ask a question???

If you are not happy with @home service, and calls and everything do not help your service, why do you stay? If it was me, and I didn't get what I paid for, I would be gone in a month. I'm just wondering. If's it's your only option for "high speed" access, I can see why, or if budget and what not.

Also, being a Online tech like that would be easy, cuz you only have to type in stuff, whearas if your talking to someone, you can't say we dont guarentee speed and crap like that. ATT used to say 100 times faster, now it's lightning fast.

Someone should see how fast lightning is, I bet it's hella faster than 100 times a 28.8.

Maybe it's a line problem, not getting enough signal or whatever, have a tech come out if you havent done so already.

Later guys.

I stay because it is the only high speed option in my area that I can afford. The other option is wireless and those prices are outrageous.

Cool, I figured that was the case. I can't believe some of the people on here getting 3,4,and 5 MB DL's, that's insane!

Your chat with the tech, that tech was a real winner. As far as great falls montana, there's not that many problems, of course, there could be a problem, but just not officail yet.

Some place was hard down, meaning a node or server was down, and it's not listed on our outage board, a list of all the problem areas, and a customer told me he talked to the local service in his area, and the whole city was down, yet I didn't have a clue, so I went through everything I knew, it sure would help If I had current info....

Mike,

Something is wrong. I live in Great Falls in the riverview area and am getting between 800k and 1500k down. They have just capped our upload to 128K. I also work with a guy that is on @home on the east end of town who gets similar speeds.
The fox farm area is also good.

Sounds like you need a service tech to check your cable at your pole.

RJ, that is pretty decent speed. I know that something is wrong, but can't figure it out and the tech people tell me there is nothing wrong and I just can't figure it out. I should call them and tell them I want them to come out and check my line. Do they charge for line checks? My downloads have only been around 40-50 KB/sec according to IE 5.5
