At my work we have an ADSL router, currently it is just sitting on the network and users go through it directly to connect to the internet. This also means attackers can hack directly into our client PCs form outside the network.

I would like the ADSL router to plug into our server/firewall, and then the server to plug into our switch that goes to the rest of the internal network. We have purchased Symantec Client Security as our firewall solution.

Our server/firewall has two network interfaces. But I cannot seem to setup the network cards correctly so that users inside the network can access the internet.

Can somebody give me a sample configuration of IP's/Gateways etc. for both network card settings.
any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

With many of the common broadband routers....you'll have a minimum of 2x ethernet ports on the router...a WAN port, for the internet, and at least 1x LAN port...for your protected network. Many of the routers come with a built in 4x port switch for the LAN ports. From either the single LAN port, or one of the 4x LAN ports if you have more than 4x networked devices...you can uplink to another switch or hub...to expand your network.(usually up to 253 nodes)

Most of the broadband routers will run a DHCP server...to hand out IP addresses, gateway, and DNS info, to all the connected LAN computers. Often in a 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx scheme. However if you have a domain controller on your network, you should use that instead of the routers DHCP.

The WAN interface of most common broadband routers supports several different types of connections...from cable with the common "Obtain Auto" configuration, to DSL with the common PPPoE or static IP configuration. Knowing what your ISP requires is helpful.
