For most of 2005, had been using a D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router. Three computer connected through the Ethernet ports and 1-2 wireless laptops.
On December 26th, my Time-Warner RoadRunner Internet performance got extremely slow. Two days later we got Time-Warner Digital phone, which required a new cable modem (Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem). Performance continued to be bad. I began trouble-shooting. If I power-cycled the router, performance would be great (Download speed ~ 4.88 Mbps and upload speed ~ 360 Kbps). Over a period of a couple hours, Download speeds could get as low as 200 Kbps. Power-cycle the router again and response time would be great, but deteriorate over time. I've done this a number of times with the same results. I connected my computer directly to the cable modem (bypassing the router) and performance is great (~ 4.88 Mbps downloads) for hours. Therfore I suspect the router. I worked with D-Link Technical support and they had me try a number of things (reduced the MTU from 1500 to 1400, then 1300; Change from channel 6 to 11 thinking there maybe interference with cordless/cell phones; Changed Preamble type from short to long; They suspected my ZoneAlarm firewall on my computer, which I disabled and the problem still persisted. I convinced D-Link to send me a replacement router, which I installed yesterday and I still have the problem. I'm running out of ideas. Next step is to contact RoadRunner to see if they implemented anything recently. Last resort is to change router brand. I've used Linksys and Netgear in the past. Before the last resort, I thought I would trying this forum. Any suggestions? JimP
