I'm setting up a network in a small office
one server running M$ server 2003 for small business
2 clients on xp pro

no trouble so far...
they have DSL coming in which i can connect when i'm direct to the modem, however i'm also running a D-stink DI-808HV router.
I set the modem for 'bridged mode' and setup the router
the router's status lists an ip, nameservers.. the whole 9

but when i try to access the internet i can no longer connect, am i missing something in the router or is there a setting in the Server 2003 that i have to change?

TIA

I set the modem for 'bridged mode'
TIA

If you have set the modem to be in bridged mode you will need to login using windows, Using Dialup pppoe you will be able to login to your account.

But you will need multiple logins if using more than one computer, one for each pc.

OK what make/model modem?

Lets triple confirm that your DStink router is doing the PPPoE and obtaining a public IP address from SBC. If you plug a computer into the (Speedstream?) modem....you can't get anywhere, correct?

Wait wait wait...if I'm not mistaking..the little Speedstream units have a LAN IP of 192.168.0.1 and the DStink is also 192.168.0.1. ....I've not setup a 192.168.0.XXX router behind one of those Speedstream units...I usually have that 3rd octet higher...but I'm wondering of the LAN IP of the DStink is screwing with the LAN IP of the Speedstream.

Flipping the network over would take some time (esp the server, DNS, DHCP, etc etc)...so before attempting to flip that over....can you take a laptop or some other machine....connect it to the DLink...log in...change the DLink to 192.168.1.1....save...release/renew the laptop or workstation...then see if you're surfing fine?

And just so I understand you correctly....currently with the DLink in place..no computers can surf the internet? Do you carry a laptop with you to check independently?

Can you post an "IPCONFIG /ALL" from one of the workstations?

if i hook up direct to the speedstream (yes 192.168.0.1) i can surf;
if i allow the dstink (also 192.168.0.1) to assign ip's with it's dhcp all can surf;

food for thought when the modem is in bridged mode it doesn't seam to broadcast it's 192.168.0.1 ip, once i set it to bridged i lost my 'connection' as if someone unplugged it; yes the router is set with user/pass for pppoe and gets an outside ip

right now i have the router handing out ip's; works, but the geek in me wants the server to do it's job ;)

Can you run IPCONFIG /ALL on a workstation and post that here please...with the servers DHCP running.
