View Full Version : Adjusting Simultaneous Login Limit.. Domain
So, here's the deal.
I've got a domain set up which has roaming profiles. What I need to do, however, is enforce some kind of policy that allows each user to only login from on location at any one time. Right now you're able to login from more than one location which can really screw some stuff up.
Anyone know where / how to enforce this?
TIA

There is no group policy or built-in windows feature that directly controls the number of simultaneous logins, but I know there are a few 3rd party apps that you can install on your domain in order to make it work. The easy answer is to limit the users to logon only to one machine, but thats not going to work for everyone.
You also might be able to do it using some scripting and playing around with the home folder share permissions if you are using logon scripts to map the home folder. I'd have to play around with it, but you might be able to set the home folder shares to single user allowed then write a script to tell windows to logout if the mapped home folders fail to showup due to the maximum users exceeded for the share..
Whatever you find out, let me know, I'm curious as well.
Well that sucks.
Is there somewhere I can force a logout after X number of inactive minutes?

I know there is a place you can force logouts after so many minutes for remote desktop connections.. Is it not possible for computers on the local domain, though?

I'm not so sure about "inactive" minutes, but you can set allowed login times to keep people from staying logged in afterhours.
One neat application I found for something along the lines of what I want to do.. MS Logoff Screensaver (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/winexit.htm).
neat utility.

the reskit & support tools are packed with goodies, but I didn't realize it had that one in there. Good find.. :thumb:
