128kbps or 128KB if its 128kbps then your good to go 128k-bits

128kbits/sec. divided by 8 = 16kbytes/sec. Max. Your almost running at your top speed.

If your connection is 128kb/s then I hope your not paying much for it. You must have 128KB/s. small b for bits,,, LARGE B for bytes. As Jaywin shows 8 bit in every Byte.

Have you applied the tweaks from this site, they helped me out allot. One more thing to remember is the server you are receiving your data from it may be busy or just a small server. Is 14KB/s always your max??? go to 209.61.187.19/speedtest/index.html and try your speed there and repost.

Actually BlackSword....ADSL in the US is capped alot lower than most Canadian DSL ISPs. It has to do with federal laws on residential data transfer limits. :(

For example, the CRTC dictates an average 1megabit transfer limit for Quebec and Ontario. PASS THE WORD! It's going to go up soon to about 2.2megabits!

Jaywin, Excellent on the 2.2 mB, the alcatel modem I have is capable of 8mB,, hopefully they will be there one day in the future also!

However have read quite a few US ADSL users and hard to believe he would only be at 128kb/s.

Thats why I thought I would tell him to try his speed out there. Before I applied the speed patches I was only getting 400-450kb/s download,, now I consistantly get 950-1100kb/s download. I only upload at 80kb/s, I don't know howmuch room there is to improve on that,,, todate I have had no reason to try and improve it.

BlackSword...I'm also on the Alcatel Sympatico. I'm about 20feet away from the CO :) and download at about 120kBytes/sec. on average. My line occupancy is only 17% so I can't wait for the upgrade.

Most DSL providers will set a rated speed, but in the fine print will claim 85% of the rated speed or more. You are getting roughly that if your getting 14KBps.

Strange...I have a 128kbpsUPSTREAM/256kbpsDOWNSTREAM ADSL service and I'm getting 70-130kilobytes per sec. download (normal/fast server of course).
