View Full Version : Downloads stop

I'm on DSL, and the speed is great, but there's problems when I got to download. The download starts off normally at about 30 to 40k/s, but after about 5 to 10 megs the download stops.
On top of that when I try to load a page my modem doesn't even respond for about 5 or 10 seconds, but as soon as it responds the page is complete within a couple seconds.
Nothing more than an inconvenience but I'd like to fix it.
Welcome to speedguide.
have you done the tweaks yet http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml
Also who is the ISP and connection speed along with your OS(operating system)

I've downloaded the tweaks for my OS(win 98 SE). I'm capped at 960. ISP is Sypatico HSE. I use access manager to connect to sypatico

Take a look here http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q243/1/99.ASP
This generally helps with IE locking up when using RASPPPoE but its been known to fix other issues. with freze and a few other things...
Also look at the properties of your network card to see if its set to auto or if it can be set to T10 full duplex or half duplex this can cut some timing issues out.
i'm assuming your using some kind of dial up thing to connect to your dsl?
if so it may be some kind of issue with it releasing and renewing your ip a lot
contact your isp about that too, see what they say

I tried downloading the windows update it didn't do anyhting noticible. you mentioned changing from auto, to T10 full duplex or half duplex. could you walk me through that procedure?
Right click on the "Network Neighborhood" click on "Properties" highlight the adapter and click on the properties button go to the advanved tab and find the part of the adapter that will change it from default or auto to "10 full" duplex if full won't work after you reboot then change it to half.
Also there is a report I'm looking for that was posted by glc1 originally about lock up conditions.
The acsess manager is not a pppoe is it.. If it is there is something else we have to do this will not hurt what your doing now.
