Hey I have chater pipeline and I am geting around 400 downstream and 120 up
I want to host a ftp server and I wanted to know if was a way to improve my upload speed is there any "tweaks" or patches to accomplish that.
Try the Speed Tweaks here at Speedguide.
Probobly won't get over 512kbps, regardless, because that sounds like your cap. And your are about at the ceiling with your 120.The upload cap being 128kbps.

thanx rosco
another thing is I live in altoona pa and am one of the first beta testers
and I didn't think charter was bad at all until I heard of people with @ home getting the 1.5mbps. Is there a way to do that and can I uncap it without breaking terms of agreement?

bumping it back up. Rosco look at my last post.
o and to add to my last comment. You work at charter. can you find out if there we'll be any speed upgrades in Altoona Pennsylvania
First I need to know whom your cable partner is because as far as I know Charter is in bed with Road Runner, @home, and HSA ,in one place or another.
A good move would be to call and find this out. Also, see if there is any tech support and who you have to call. In addition, ask if there are caps on your speeds, and if there are than attemping to surmount these would more than likely violate contractual agreements.

Ok sorry for getting back later
Its with roadrunner and I am not gonna break the caps I have no clue how to anyway
I don't know why but 2 days ago I got 40 - 70 kb\sec now its 10 - 40 could the cap be 712\ down 120\up
I have no idea. But if you called your tech support I am sure they could help.
Just curious, what type of cable modem do you have?

Hey bro, I was just browsing through and saw your post about Charter Cable. I'm also beta testing Charter in Altoona. I've had it for about two weeks now and it seems to be working well. The only thing I've had to do is change my registry files. Before I installed the registry patch, I was downloading between 42 and 48 Kbps. (yes, slower than my 56k phone line ...LOL)(When I saw speeds that slow, I thought maybe they ran my cable line around the Horseshoe Curve before bringing it into my house...LOL Now I seem to be somewhere around 400 Kbps. I'm not sure how acurate some of those speed test sites are but I've been getting readings of well over 1Mbps (once in a while) but that's just in spurts. I don't think our connection is capable of sustaining speeds over 1meg/sec.
Good luck with your system, if it's like everything else in this town, you'll probably need it. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif
Later
I'm in Duncansville on new Altoona system getting as high as 1236.4 Kbps 151.5 K bytes/sec from MSN speed test. Most time it's around the 500/120 range.

In Penn Farms also. Cedar Crest Drive. Running with a new drop from modem to street box. On a T-3 line and yes, I am getting commercial speeds at times. The cap is supposed to be 512/128 but...
This won't last I'm sure as more hook on.
