I was reading about MTU/MSS RWIN, having tweaked around with Dan's Cabelnuts, and a lot of other patches, that change things in the registry.

I was using MTU 1492 PPPoe, I have Roadrunner Cable in South Carolina.

I have found MTU1500 to cause packetloss, so I used 1492 and the MSS of 1440. I play a lot of online games where its not so important to download long periods of bulk information. Its more of small packets of data and the lower the latency the better.

What settings should I use when I play online games? I have switched it back to the Dial-up settings, that give a smaller RWIN of 4288, MaxMTU 576 and MaxMSS 536. TTL 128, sackOpts 1 MaxDupAcks 3

I think what I need is to receive ALOT of data fast, send smaller, FAST data packets, with as little to no packetloss, and keep the ping low as possible.

So what settings should I go for?

Often ALOT of data is forced down the pipe at me, and If I cannot receive it all in prompt time, I get disconnected from the game ( Everquest ) but I also have to keep a fast responsive ping and send small packets back to the game server..

Thanks,
Pox

You should try and go with TCP/IP protocol because it is small and it can squeeze alot of info through at once. Also it is the newest and most used now days. You may have to use IPX though depending on what game it is and how old it is. I just have both installed and ready. IPX is older and slower but it still works good.

TCP/IP must be used for online gaming--it's the protocol that is used online. IPX is non-routable and thus, for LAN gaming only.

I lowered my MaxMTU from 1496 to 1400 and it decreases my ping to severs but slows down my downloads.
I just reboot with whichever setting for the application I will be doing.
Maybe cablenut or rmrucker can explain why this works?
