Wireless Antenna

Hiya

I am quite new to all this, but learning...

I have a wireless network at home, and live quite close to my university. The university allow us to use the network on wifi, however I am out of range on my laptop... is there a way to receive the signal?? about half a mile??

couple things..

1/2 a mile is quite a bit
and
if you want to get some type of external antenna you will likely need a new Wireless Card (one with an Antenna connector)
