FYI... Moderators MIGHT wanna make this a sticky...
After weeks of headaches...
The WAP54G does NOT work in repeater mode while running WPA encryption. Dont even TRY it.
Even though the linksys website CLAIMS that it will work, it just plain doesnt...
My configuration...
1 BEFSX41
2 WAP54G
1 homebuilt PC (wired)
2 Dell laptops (wireless)
1. With BOTH AP's running the 2.08 firmware and WPA, no dice. The laptops can see them. But not at the same time. The laptops start dropping connections. If I unplug the AP in repeater mode, everything is fine. If I unplug the AP in AP mode, I can connect to the repeater, but no internet or home LAN (of course...)
2. With BOTH AP's running the 2.08 firmware and either WEP 64-bit, WEP-128 bit, or NO ENCRYTION, everything is FINE! Smooth sailing!
3. With BOTH AP's running the HyperWAP 1.0 firmware and WPA, SAME AS #1!
4. With BOTH AP's running HyperWAP 1.0 and either WEP 64-bit, WEP 128-bit, or NO ENCRYPTION, SMOOTH SAILING (just like #2).
I did started another thread concerning this issue. I originally purchased the 2nd AP on 8/15 (Ive had the first AP over 1 year). I took the AP that I purchased on 8/15 back and exchanged it on 8/22 thinking that MAYBE the AP was defective. Turns out that it wasnt.
Check out this link from Linksys' website where they CLAIM that the WAP54G works in repeater mode when running WPA encryption...

Then load your WAP54G with 2.08, go to the help section under SETTING>>AP MODE and notice where it says "Note: For all AP Client, Wireless Repeater, and Bridging modes, make sure the SSID, channel, and Security/WEP key settings are the same for all access points. WPA will not work with in AP Client, Wireless Repeater and Wireless Bridge modes."
If I had known this, I wouldnt have spent almost 2 weeks trying to figure this crap out...
